South-East Asian Health Ministers Commit to Rational Use of Antibiotics

Health Ministers from 11 South-East Asian countries recently met in India, committing to preserve the efficacy of antibiotics through rational use and regulation.

Health Ministers from 11 South-East Asian countries met at India's Jaipur recently to review key health issues in WHO’s South-East Asia Region and provide policy direction for future action.

 

The Health Ministers adopted the Jaipur Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance, committing to preserve the efficacy of antibiotics through rational use and regulation. They also focused on the prevention and control of non communicable diseases.

 

By adopting the Jaipur Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance, the Health Ministers called for urgent measures to control further development of antimicrobial resistance. They acknowledged that the most important driver of antimicrobial resistance is the irrational use of these agents and national governments
