Women in Pharma: Career Design for Women

Our monthly Women in Pharma series highlights the influential lives and works of impactful women working across the pharmaceutical industry, and how the industry can work towards making the healthcare industry and workplace more equitable and inclusive.

At this year’s CPHI Japan, we will hold the first-ever CPHI Women on Thursday April 10, 2025 at 102 on the first floor of the Conference Tower adjacent to Tokyo Big Sight, with the aim of creating a network of women active in the pharmaceutical industry.

Registration for participation

CPHI Women, launched in 2015 as part of the concurrent programme of the CPHI Japan International Pharmaceutical Development Exhibition, is a project aimed at creating a network for women working in the healthcare industry, primarily in pharmaceutical companies.

At this year's CPHI Japan event, current HR representatives from pharmaceutical companies will discuss the roles of women in the pharmaceutical industry and explore future career designs together with participants.

Programme Content

Part 1: Panel Discussion - "Women’s Empowerment in the Pharmaceutical Industry"

What does a career for women look like? We will discuss career development for women in the pharmaceutical industry, which has a unique culture, through case studies. The session will be moderated by an HR expert with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and two current HR professionals from pharmaceutical companies will join as panelists to answer any questions from the participants.

Questions to be asked and answered include: what is the status of women's empowerment in the pharmaceutical industry? What are the recent career path examples? What systems would they like to implement in the future?

Part 2: Group Discussion

① Challenges and Issues in Career Development

② Creating a More Supportive Work Environment - What I Practice

In this interactive group discussion, participants will have the opportunity to exchange active opinions in a casual atmosphere, overcoming barriers of different environments and connecting as fellow ‘working women’.

With recent work-style reforms, Japan’s labour environment and work systems are undergoing various changes. People's priorities and perspectives on life are diversifying rapidly, and individual values and views on careers are also becoming more varied.

Although the industry is the same, there are few all-women communities, and opportunities to discuss issues from the same standpoint are rare. This event will provide a platform for women working in the healthcare industry, regardless of their company or position, to speak up and engage in discussions freely. We encourage you to join and participate actively.
