Pharmapack Europe integral to anti-counterfeiting efforts

Serialisation, track & trace at the top of the agenda in Europe’s biggest packaging show.
Pharmapack Europe, organised by UBM EMEA, held its most successful event yet at the Paris expo Porte De Versailles on the 10 and 11 February 2016. The event, exclusively dedicated to the pharma packaging and drug delivery industry, gathered 3409 visitors and 387 exhibitors under one roof — an increase from 2015 of 12% and 15% respectively. Moreover, 70% of the exhibitors were international, with high-level representatives from 74 countries ready to discuss the industry’s most pressing issues and present innovative solutions.
Chief among the event’s themes was serialisation and the industry’s efforts to overcome counterfeiting in pharmaceuticals. One of the most popular sessions, the Serialisation, Track & Trace Symposium, covered the ongoing implementation of track and trace technologies, as well as an expert discussion on the implications of the pan-European authentication scheme and its impact on contract manufacturers, OEMs and international pharma companies. Part of the agenda included an interactive exchange on enhanced anti-counterfeiting strategies, focusing on using efficient authentication technologies to support brand protection and supply chain integrity.
Patient centricity was another key trend to emerge, with sessions and workshops on how to improve engagement and cater for patients. In fact, three out of seven award winners were related to product’s ease-of-use and patient protection, while two Learning Lab sessions covered new insights on serving patients through enhanced packaging.
Innovation was at the forefront of the event, with the Innovation Gallery showcasing 21 visionary products from the exhibitors. From these 21 cutting-edge creations, four outstanding contributions were awarded in the Exhibitor category; along with three further remarkable products from visitors for the Health Product category. Completing the focus on innovation at the event, the Innovation Tours helped educate attendees on patient compliance packaging solutions and medical polymer technologies for pharma packaging & drug delivery.
Lionel Jeannin, Device and Packaging Expert at Novartis, commented: “Pharmapack Europe is the key event of the pharmaceutical packaging and medical device industry. Well organized, and complemented by comprehensive conferences on the most trendy topics of the industry, it is gaining global scale by attracting attendees coming from outside of Europe.”
Anne Schumacher, Event Director at Pharmapack Europe, added: “2016 was an exciting edition for Pharmapack, with more attendees and exhibitors than previous years, and many new products showcased at the event. We have created a platform whereby the packaging and drug delivery sectors’ latest developments are centralized in one location. Key trends we have observed this year include the ongoing serialization efforts, new delivery mechanisms, connected devices and industry initiatives to increase patient centricity.”
The next edition of Pharmapack Europe will take place on the 1 and 2 February 2017, again at the Paris expo Porte de Versailles, where the leading industry analysts, executives and companies will gather to learn and discuss the latest issues set to effect the industry.
