Product Description

CLOPINE (clozapine) is an atypical antipsychotic agent. Clozapine is chemically identified as 8-chloro-11-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-5H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]diazepine. Clozapine is a yellow crystalline powder. The PhEur monograph for clozapine solubility states that clozapine is freely soluble in methylene chloride, soluble in ethanol and it dissolves in dilute acetic acid. Clozapine does not exhibit any form of isomerism or polymorphism. CLOPINE tablets and suspension belong to the group of medicines known as antipsychotics. This group of medicines is mainly used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental illness with disturbances in thinking, feelings and behaviour. This medicine is only used in patients with schizophrenia for whom other antipsychotic medicines have not worked or have caused severe side effects. Dosage: 12.5 mg once or twice on the first day, followed by 25 mg once or twice on the second day. If well tolerated, the daily dose may then be increased slowly in increments of 25 to 50 mg in order to achieve a dose level of up to 300 mg/day within 2-3 weeks. Thereafter, if required, the daily dose may be further increased in increments of 50 to 100 mg at half-weekly, or, preferably, weekly intervals. Presentation: CLOPINE 50 mg tablets are round yellow flat bevel-edged tablets engraved '50' over a pressure sensitive breakline on one face, the other face plain. Storage: Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.
