Calcipotriol Anhydrous

Calcipotriol / Calcipotriene Anhydrous is a HPAI Vitamin D Derivative used for the treatment of moderate plaque psoriasis.

Much work has been  devoted to the development of Vitamin D analogues in the past decades. The key issue has been  the identification of the best candidates showing the desired cell differentiating and immunomodulating activity, while strongly avoiding the undesirable reduction of hypercalcemic activity.
Calcipotriol Anhydrous was the first Vitamin D analogue HPAI on the market, used in the treatment of psoriasis as a cream and ointment. It is available as scalp lotion, cream or ointment.

Combined with a potent steroid (Betamethasone), it is more effective and better tolerated. New innovative formulations are under development.

USE
A great deal of activity was devoted during the last years in order to develop analogues of Vitamin D showing the desired cell differenciating and immunomodulating activity, but with strongly reduced hypercalcemic activity *repetition.

Synergies  with other treatments, like PUVA, UVB and ciclosporin have  been reported in some studies.
