HUONSTIDE(Ceftazidime 1g)

Ceftazidime should only be used against very severe infections. Restrict the use of third generation cephalosporins to avoid overgrowth of resistant organisms.Serious Gram-negative bacterial infections. such as septicaemia. meningitis. complicated urinary tract infections. lower airway infections and infections in patients with mucoviscidose. bone and joint infections. gynaecological infections. intra-abdominal infections. skin and soft tissue infections including burn and wound infections.In case of verified and suspected Pseudomonas or Staphylococcal infections in neutropenic patients. ceftazidime needs to be combined with other antibiotics. Dosage: 1) The usual adult dosage is 1g administered intravenously or intramuscularly every 8 of 12 hours. The dosage should be determined by the susceptibility of the causative organism. the severity of injection and the condition and renal function of the patient.2) Impaired hepatic functions: No adjustment in dosage is required for patients with hepatic dysfunction.3) Impaired renal Function: Ceftazidime is excreted by the kidney. almost exclusively by glomerular filtration. Therefore. in patients with impaired renal function (glomerular filtration rate [GFR <50ml/min]). it is recommended that the dosage of Ceftazidime be reduced to compensate for its slower excretion. In patients with suspected renal insufficiency. an initial loading dose of 1g of Ceftazidime may be given. An estimate of GFR should be made to determine the appropriate maintenance dose.
