The emulsification platform is an integrative, fast and easy screening tool to set up emulsification processes such as simple and double emulsions using Secoya’s emulsification technology: the Raydrop. It includes a comprehensive flow path with pressure controllers, filters, flowmeters, and valves to ease the start-up, shut-down and cleaning of the system in between tests. A suitable optical system guarantees the optimum visualization of the emulsification process inside the Raydrop. The open design of the platform allows its adaptation to the customer’s needs. The Raydrop platform was developed with double emulsification process in its heart, but it is totally compatible with simple emulsification processes.

    The emulsification process in the RayDrop® is based on co-flow and flow-focusing technologies embedded in a stainless-steel housing. Furthermore, the RayDrop® integrates the possibility to produce double emulsion (W/O/W, O/W/O), e.g. for the production of core/shell particles or capsules.

    Monodispersed PLGA particles are easily produced using the RayDrop® technology with particle size from 10 up to 200 µm and without the use of chlorinated solvent. The technology is suitable for the efficient encapsulation of any active ingredients, being either hydrophobic or hydrophilic.

    In this introductory webinar, the Secoya Crystallization Technology is demonstrated. This technology focuses on the use of millifluidic capillary reactors that enable the most profound control on all crystallization parameters, making spontaneous nucleation controllable and exploitable. Several examples using organic molecules like active pharmaceutical ingredients are shown, also pinpointing to the way the nucleation can be controlled to crystallize the polymorphic form of choice and at the same time steer the process towards the final desired material attributes, especially size. As such, the complex multi-step process of crystallization (seed preparation, crystal growth, isolation, milling, etc.) is reduced to a simple setup where the nucleation, growth and isolation of organic or inorganic compounds are fully coupled from the (heated) solution to a crystalline material.
