Report Looks at Growing Need for Cold Chain Storage

Experts predict that four-fifths of major drug products will require cold chain storage and handling by 2016.

Cold chain storage and handling is becoming increasingly important within the biopharmaceutical industry, a new report has shown.

Research conducted by online resource Cold Chain IQ revealed that 96 per cent of companies now expect their logistics providers to be competent at cold chain or temperature control.

Seventy-one per cent of pharmaceutical distribution professionals expect to increase investment in this area over the next ten years.

The survey of more than 100 members of the pharmaceutical and medical distribution chain also revealed that nearly three in ten respondents reported temperature excursions in at least six per cent of their temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.
