PHILFAZOLIN(Cefazolin 1g)

Cefazolin is indicated in the treatment of the following infections due to susceptible microorganisms such as: Respiratory tract infections, Skin and soft tissue infections, Bone and joint infections, Several cases of septicemia and endocarditis, Biliary tract infection and genitor-urinary tract infection. Prophylactic use: Perioperative administration of cefazolin may reduce the incidence of postoperative infections in patients undergoing contaminated or potentially contaminated surgical procedures associated with a high risk of infection, or where the occurrence of a post-operative infection could be especially serious. Dosage: Cefazolin sodium is given by deep intramuscular injection, by slow intravenous injection over 3 to 5 minutes or by intravenous infusion. (1) The usual adult dose is 0.5 to 1g every 6 to 12 hours. (2) The usual maximum daily dose is 6g although up to 12g has been used in severe life-threatening infections. (3) Infants over one month may be given 25 to 50 mg/kg daily in 3 or 4 divided doses, increased in severe infections to a maximum of 100 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses. For the prophylaxis of infection during surgery, a 1 g dose is given half to one hour prior to the operation, followed by 0.5 to 1g during surgery for lengthy procedures. A dose of 0.5 to 1g is given every 6 to 8 hours postoperatively for 24 hours or up to 5 days in certain cases (e.g.. open-heart surgery or implantation of prosthetic devices). Dosage should be reduced in renal failure; Package : 1 g/vial , 10vials/box .
