Obama win keeps healthcare reforms at the forefront in US

Healthcare reforms will remain on the agenda in the US after Barrack Obama wins a second term as president.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) has welcomed the outcome of the 2012 Presidential Election.
Extending its congratulations to President Obama after winning a second term in the Oval Office, the organisation said that his victory means healthcare reforms will remain at the forefront of the next administration.

Edith Rosato, chief executive of the AMCP, said that the industry knows it should not go back to the status quo, no matter the regulatory, economic or political challenges that it will have to overcome.

"AMCP is committed working with the Obama Administration and Congress to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical care," she said.

Managed care pharmacy has played an important role in developing many of the evidence-based practices that have contributed to the current healthcare reform proposals, Ms Rosato added.

"Our profession is based on identifying and delivering the most safe and effective care possible for the patient."
