Janssen announces cross-pharma clinical trial investigator databank

Janssen R&D has launched a new databank that should help pharmaceutical companies to identify appropriate clinical trial sites more efficiently.

Janssen Research & Development (Janssen R&D) has announced the creation of a new global cross-pharmaceutical Investigator Databank that should help to improve the efficiency of industry-sponsored clinical trials.

The resource will serve as a repository for information about clinical trial sites, reducing the administrative work involved in identifying appropriate sites and investigators for future trials.

Relevant information on investigator sites that have opted in to data sharing will be available to pharmaceutical companies involved in the collaboration.

Dr Andreas Koester, head of clinical trial innovation and external alliances at Janssen R&D, explained: "The current clinical trial environment is inefficient, costly and unsustainable.

"The Investigator Databank can help expedite the process to achieve our most important goal - to deliver high-quality, effective novel medicines to the patients who are waiting for them."

Merck and Eli Lilly and Company have already joined the initiative, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
