Australia Sees A Gap in Cancers Represented in Clinical Trials

Four of the five cancers that result in the greatest burden of disease had relatively few clinical trials: lung, colorectal, prostate and pancreatic cancers.

Australian doctors have noticed a disturbing trend: four of the most serious types of cancers are not getting the attention they deserve in clinical trials. This concern is expressed in a University of Sydney study which states several cancers are not getting the clinical trial investment they require.

"Four of the five cancers that result in the greatest burden of disease had relatively few clinical trials: lung, colorectal, prostate and pancreatic cancers," Rachel Dear, a medical oncologist at the University of Sydney, said in a news release.
