Supplier found: Mobile Robots will handle heavy loads
At the future University of Zealand Hospital, the transport of goods and waste will be handled by Mobile Robots, which themselves pick up carts and notify the staff when they have arrived.
It also means that nursing staff can avoid too many logistics tasks while the robots take the heavy haul. In this way, it benefits both patients and staff.
These are the basic ideas in the future logistics solution for the new hospital.
The physical solutions needed for this to succeed are on the way. The first step is that the supplier of the Mobile Robots has been found.
Sjællands Universitetshospital in Køge is investing in new technology for the benefit of patients and staff. In future, logistics, technology and automation will be a big part of everyday life when the new and modern buildings are completed. We received several qualified bids from companies that could solve the task. The evaluation of the bids has clearly pointed to the Italian manufacturer of logistics robots Oppent, which has won, says project director Helle Gaub.
Client advisor COWI and GAIN have been in charge of the evaluation, where both quality, operating costs and price have been weighted. In this comparison, Oppent SpA won on both quality and price, which is why Sjællands Universitetshospital ended up purchasing 35 Mobile Robots for a price of DKK 23 million.
Yesterday, the so-called Standstill period expired, so we have now officially started the project.
"With the latest modern robot technology, we look forward to helping to deliver goods back and forth in the large new hospital. We are really excited to have the opportunity to work with Sjællands Universitetshospital on this project", says Alberto Beretta, CEO at Oppent SpA.
When goods will arrive at the reception area in the future, Mobile Robots will transport trolleys around the hospital. The 35 robots will work round the clock with more than 2,000 transports a day.
Mobile Robots are purchased in several hospital buildings, but the purchase of the 35 robots for the upcoming university hospital in Køge is the largest single purchase to date.
The first AMRs - Autonomous Mobile Robots - will run from 2022, and the last ones will be put into operation in 2025.
