Pharma industry to improve image

Industry figure calls for cheaper medication.

A key figure in the pharmaceutical industry has called for a positive response to a recent Forbes report that indicated the sector has the lowest level of trust in comparison to its fellows in the healthcare industry.
Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, said that ever-increasing prices for medication are undermining the efforts of those trying to help patients with serious illnesses.

The drugs industry was found by the original Forbes survey to have "a lack of fair pricing policies leading to unseemly profits" and also received a low rating when it came to questioning the sector's integrity.
According to Mr Weinstein, the research should act as a wake-up call for those wishing to improve the industry's reputation.

"Pharma should hear the message loud and clear; its policy of gouging patients over their health is backfiring," he insisted, adding that some corporations charge extortionate amounts for medication before taking home enormous profits.
