Product Description

Nitrofurantoin is reduced by bacterial enzymes to reactive intermediates.These intermediates attack bacterial ribosomal proteins, which stops protein synthesis.This also inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and cell wall proteins.Nitrofurantoin's broad-based mechanism of action makes it difficult for bacteria to develop resistance.The multiple mechanisms of action require multiple mutations in the bacteria to be resistant, which would likely be lethal.
