Ascendis Health is a South African-based international health care company marketing leading brands and products. Founded in 2008 and listed in the healthcare sector on the JSE in November 2013, the group has complemented its organic growth by buying complementary businesses and extracting synergies from these acquisitions.
Since the start of its international growth strategy in 2015 the group has acquired four businesses in Europe, namely Farmalider in Spain (pharmaceuticals and OTC medicine), Remedica in Cyprus (generic pharmaceuticals), Scitec in Hungary (sports nutrition) and Sun Wave Pharma in Romania (nutraceuticals). Today Ascendis has global reach, generating annual revenue of more than R7 billion (€500 million) and employing over 4 000 dedicated and passionate people. Products are sold to more than 120 countries across all continents, with close to 60% of the group’s earnings generated outside of South Africa.
