The Process Technology division of IKA offers turnkey solutions and state-of-the-art manufacturing options. In the past decades the process equipment division of IKA has attained a leading position in the mixing industry, as well as for engineered systems. This presence was established and strengthened by the IKA innovative technology. Our high-quality stirring, mixing and kneading machines are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry.

IKA specializes in plants for use in fully continuous processes. In addition to the dispersing of several liquids in a single pass, the proportional introduction of solids into liquids is an IKA specialty. Conventional batch solutions complete the IKA portfolio.
In addition to standard solutions, IKA also designs and builds complete customer-specific process plants. We take into consideration all aspects that are important for successful and economical production; optimum process runs and customized controls, design that is easy to clean, project-based materials selection, explosion protection, and individual customer requirements.

Emulsifying different liquids, dispersing or dissolving solids in liquids, mixing or drying powders, all this and much more can be done with a single unit! Available in three different versions, there are virtually no limits to the magic PLANT laboratory system. The magic PLANT is very easy to clean, universally applicable and virtually maintenance free. All parts that are in contact with the product are made of 316L stainless steel (special materials available on request). With a viscosity range of up to 100,000 mPas for the processing, the magic PLANT is the ideal laboratory system for use in a wide range of applications. 

Efficient but gentle mixing of free-flowing solids with different bulk densities and particle sizes: This is made possible by the Conical Dryer CD and the Conical Mixer CM by IKA. The user-friendly and intelligent design of the two machines, their flexible equipment with a large number of freely-selectable options, and the possibility of a scale-up from laboratory scale to  production scale make our conical dryer and conical mixer the ideal companion for your process.

The IKA CMX 2000 is an inline mixer for rapid and homogeneous incorporation of powders into liquids. The circulation of fluid creates a powerful vacuum in the machine that draws in the powder. This ensures an agglomerate free integration of problematic powders that are not easily incorporated into the liquid phase. The multi-level design also enables a stable level of functionality even when working with high viscosities. Specific tools can be used to achieve the optimum dispersing quality.

With the CMX, IKA has developed a system that incorporates solids into liquids in a recirculation process. In batch processing mode the inline mixer from IKA draws powders into liquids and disperses them without dust or clumping. The CMX works in two stages: The additional pump stage lends it an extremely stable characteristic. The upper, second stage mixes the solid and liquid phases without clumping. The CMX from IKA processes products in a very broad spectrum of viscosities without the need for ancillary aggregates such as circulation pumps. Thanks to its modular concept, the plant can be flexibly adapted to every customer’s individual needs. The solid material can be fed in from a big bag emptying station, a hopper, bag dump stations or directly from sacks with the aid of a suction lance. The CMX from IKA is available in seven machine sizes with capacities from 1 to 40,000 litres.

The IKA magic PLANT is a laboratory-scale batch processing plant for the batch mixing and emulsification of low-viscosity to only just still pourable masses. The magic PLANT by IKA is used for the mixing and dispersion of liquids, and of solids with liquids, for wet grinding and dissolution processes.

The IKA CD is a process plant for batch mixing and vacuum contact drying of moist, wet and in-fluid mixed solids. Both the spiral agitator and the vessel are completely heatable and ideal for a temperature incorporation of up to 200°C. The unique shape of the spiral agitator enables the product be mixed intensively yet gently. The integrated flow breaker adds additional turbulences inside the product while the agitator stirs the product. The agitator is infinitely adjustable; the entire process is done under vacuum. The conical shape of the vessel allows for a complete emptying process of the product out of the vessel and simplifies the CIP-cleaning for the user. In order to achieve effective drying of complicated products such as pastes or hardly flowable products, it is possible to tilt the entire vessel of up to 45° during the process. An upscale of process plants from 10l up to 10.000l is easily possible.

PCCA in Houston, Texas, produces creams, lotions and gels for the pharmaceutical use. The IKA Master Plant series is used in their R&D department as well as in their production. The Master Plants produce emulsions with particles sizes that are so small, that the active ingredients can be introduced into the skin in a perfectly easy way.
