Flucloxin (250 mg injection)

FLUCLOXIN contains flucloxacillin, an antibiotic belonging to a group of medicines called penicillin. Flucloxacillin is (6R)-6-[3-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-5-methyl-isoxazole-4-carboxa-mido] penicillanic acid. This medicine works by killing the bacteria, which cause infection. It is used to treat skin and soft tissue infections caused by some species of bacteria that are resistant to penicillin, e.g. infections of the joints, respiratory tract, urinary tract, inflammation (pain, heat, swelling or redness) of the middle ear, inflammation of the endocardium (a membrane that covers the inside surface of the heart), infected blood and meningitis, prevent infections resulting from surgery, in particular chest, bone and joint procedures. FLUCLOXIN will not work against infections caused by viruses such as colds or the flu. FLUCLOXIN is used to treat only infections that will respond to it. Some infections are resistant to the effects of FLUCLOXIN. 1.09 g of flucloxacillin sodium is approximately equivalent to 1 g of anhydrous flucloxacillin. Flucloxacillin injection is compatible with the following infusion fluids for a period not exceeding 1 hour at room temperature: Dextrose 5%, Dextrose/Saline, Hartman’s Ringers, 0.9% sodium chloride, dextrans. Flucloxacillin injection is stable when reconstituted in water for injection for at least 72 hours when stored at 5°C. It is compatible with the following infusion fluids for up to 72 hours when stored at 5°C: Dextrose 5%, 0.9% sodium chloride and dextrose/saline. Storage: Store FLUCLOXIN in a cool place protected from light and moisture. Presentation: Type III glass vials containing a white powder for reconstitution and labelled with the appropriate content of flucloxacillin. All strengths of FLUCLOXIN come in packs of 5 vials.
