Arthritis 'a serious problem' for the Middle East

Arthroplasty discussion to benefit arthritis sufferers in the UAE.

Millions of people in Middle Eastern countries are suffering from arthritis, new research has revealed, with one in five members of the Arabic population revealed to have contracted some form of the condition.

The sensational figures are the result of new research carried out by Informa Life Science Exhibitions as part of the second International Congress for Joint Reconstruction, due to take place in Dubai from 7th-9th March.
As a result, the event will focus primarily on the benefits of using joint reconstruction and surgery such as total knee arthroplasy to cure the condition, which preys on the elderly and the frail.

Dr. Humeira Badsha, consultant rheumatologist at the Dr. Humeira Badsha Medical Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), said: "Arthroplasty ... is a very important topic that is frequently discussed during the congress due to the prevalence of arthritis and conditions that require this procedure."

She added the procedure would only become more common in the Middle East, with themost popular types of arthritis being osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
