Application of sulfobutyl ether-beta-cyclodextrin sodium salt in injection

Results suggest that it is possible to prepare a long-acting injection of fentanyl using SBE-β-CD as a solubilizer and a stabilizer

Researchers of Shandong Binzhou Ziyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. studied the potential of sulfobuytl ether-beta-cyclodextrin sodium salt that produced by the company as an excipient to increase the effectiveness of fentanyl for injection.

As a result, it was found that this beta-cyclodextrin derivative forms a 1:1 inclusion complex with fentanyl, and the drug solubility increases as the concentration of SBE-β-CD increases.

The appropriate concentration of SBE-β-CD can be chosen so that the free drug in the injection coexists with the drug being included. In which the free drug dose can guarantee the lowest effective dose for injection, the drug being included as a drug reservoir, slow release, so as to achieve long-term purpose.

The above results suggest that it is possible to prepare a long-acting injection of fentanyl using SBE-β-CD as a solubilizer and a stabilizer.
